I made my first submission today. Officially. As a writer.
I’m glad I didn’t chicken out.
I almost did. I could literally feel the procrastination demon whispering in my right ear, telling me that since the deadline to submit was July 11th it was best to just let these last 5 days skate by quietly.
But I didn’t. I submitted “Raja’s Requiem” to a digital platform called “midnight & indigo”, which is a literary journal that celebrates Black women writers.
I don’t know if it will be accepted or rejected – that’s honestly not even my concern – but the most important thing is that I overcame my fear and actually took a step in that direction.
That means I can take another step. And another.
I plan to submit “Raja’s Requiem” to two more publications before the month is out. Then, I’ll work on writing and readying more of my work for submission.
As well as “Goddess of Flames” for publication. It’s time. A new cover is being designed and it’s in the next-to-last stage of editing.
I’m so incredibly excited again. It’s all about that first step.
I wish I’d really known just how exhilarating this part of the journey really is. If I had, I probably would have gotten over my fears years ago.
I’m curious: do you get butterflies or a rush of excitement when you submit? Just asking as a newbie to “this side”… 😉
