Who is Clara?

Clara Mae, better known as “Clara” or “Claire”, is the first person the Carters (Luke, Matt, and Shana) meet on their first day at their new school – a sweet, funny, devout Christian that the Carters immediately take a liking to.  She has a light-hearted disposition and – despite all of the sadness and pain she’s endured – likes to comfort others and take care of those she loves.
Clara knows the dangerous secret that the town holds. A year before the Carters arrived, Laraii and Carii kidnapped Clara’s 8-year-old sister Chelsea Lee and turned her into a demon. That fateful night – and horrible incident – was how she wound up meeting the Rebel Demons (Naya, Ana, and Carlo). The trio attempted a rescue of the poor girl in a brutal fight with Laraii and Carii, only to fail at the last moment.
Clara has aligned herself with the Rebel Demons in an attempt to protect herself from the rising demon population. When the Carters arrive, she positions herself effectively to shield them from Laraii and the rest of her demons, making her even more of a target in the demon high school.
Like Matt, Clara also harbors a very powerful secret: since the age of 10, she has possessed psychic abilities far beyond anything she can understand. She is able to see things outside of the physical realm, but can also imagine and project anything she wants into the third-dimensional world.
Shaken by this ability, she has trained herself to ignore it and allow it to grow dormant. However, with the Carters now in town, it seems her powers are manifesting randomly.
She immediately develops a crush on Matt upon meeting him, even though she knows he’s a player. Despite being a sweet girl, she has a sharp, playful wit and can usually hold her own when Matt gets extra “flirty” with her.
Fun fact: she can do perfect impersonations of anyone… almost as if she’s “projecting” their personality onto herself. 🤔

Luke took in her features, then quickly decided Clara Mae was too young for him.  She was certainly cute enough, though.  She was short, with silky straight red hair that hung practically to her bottom.  Her eyes were the same dark green as the ivy growing in abundance over the campus brick walls, and her cheeks were rosy without the need of make-up.  She seemed bubbly without being annoying, and it appeared she had a natural excitement about life, something Shana hoped they could form a friendship over.

It was morbid, but since watching that first night she couldn’t stay away. She felt like she still needed to be there for her baby sister. Whenever there was a full or new moon, she would creep into the woods and watch Chelsea. She'd failed her younger sister that fateful night the demons lured her away, but she would watch her forever as penance for her mistakes. If only she hadn’t left the door unlocked that night.
